Nepalese man Hitendra Limbu jailed for khukuri knife attack on teenagers in Ashford town centre

Hitendra Limbu admitted a knife attack in Ashford

A Nepalese man who carried out a bloody attack with a nine-inch khukuri knife during a drunken brawl has today been jailed for seven years.

Hitendru Limbu, 21, admitted two charges relating to the fight in Ashford town centre that left two teenagers with serious injuries in April.

Limbu, of Quantock Drive, Ashford, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court today.

The incident left Iceland worker Charlie Carolan, 19, with a huge gash through the cartilage in his nose - as well as cuts to his arm, chest and back.

His friend Ashley Curtis, 18, suffered a serious injury to his thumb, which required reconstructive surgery. Limbu was sentenced to seven years for causing grievous bodily harm with intent and two years for wounding with intent - the sentences will run concurrently. He admitted both charges.

A third charge of being in possession of an offensive weapon – a 24cm khukuri knife, which is a traditional weapon of the Nepalese Gurkha soldiers – was left on the court file.

However, Judge Adele Williams made an order for the knife to be destroyed.

She said: "Those who deliberately arm themselves with knives and cause serious injuries to others can expect nothing but a lengthy sentence.

"You got into a verbal and physical confrontation with Charlie Carolan and you and he had to be separated.

"I sentence you on your basis of plea that you were struck by him but what you did next was very serious indeed."

With his face covered in blood, Hitendra Limbu is pictured in a police image after being arrested

Charlie Carolan was badly injured in a knife attack

Limbu had been out drinking with a male Nepalese friend and two female Polish friends, all work colleagues from SBE, to celebrate one of their birthdays.

While the victims had been part of a group of 10 friends, who had been a bar crawl, also to mark a friend's birthday.

Both groups had gone to Liquid and Envy nightclub in East Hill before the fight started outside a kebab shop in the High Street at about 2.30am on Tuesday, April 16.

Trevor Wright, prosecuting, said: "They saw two girls of European appearance and in the statement of Ashley Curtis - there's some suggestion that the girls had been hassled by the two Nepalese gentlemen.

"You may think that in the circumstances where they worked together and went out together, that's not exactly right."

Scene of the stabbing in Bank Street, Ashford

After an initial fight over a four-letter rant, both groups walked off in opposite directions.

CCTV footage showed Limbu return to the High Street with a khuukri knife.

His friend - Som Gurung - was seen on the CCTV trying to stop him from going back to confront them.

Around 10 minutes later, the two Nepalese men came running towards them.

Ashley Curtis described how Mr Limbu was shouting and he was enticing Mr Carolan towards him.

"It looked like they were having a fight," he said. "They were grabbing each other, holding each other and throwing each other around."

Mr Carolan suffered a long cut from the bridge of the nose to the lip, which split through the septum of his nose.

Forensic officers in Ashford town centre after the stabbing

Simon Taylor, defending, said: "The defence would assert that he was attacked first.

"All that Mr Limbu wished me to say was that he was violently attacked by a group of men for no good reason.

"He is a 21-year-old man, being in the UK for two years, a relative newcomer to this country.

"He felt a little bit humiliated by what had happened and armed himself.

"He is a strong member of his community and he feels strongly how much he has let his family and his community down.

"He is a very young man with a good degree of naivety because he was relatively new in this country."

Amrita Acharia

The girl on the right side.(Amrita Acharia)  is a young Norwegian actress resident in the UK. She is half-Ukranian and half-Nepalese. She grew up in Kathmandu, Nepal, before moving to London, England, and ultimately to northern Norway with her family when she was thirteen years old.
She has a small number of stage and screen roles to her name, most notably an appearance in the play Elevator, a role in the short film In the Company of Wolves and a brief role in the British drama series Casualty.

In Game of Thrones Acharia was playing the role of Irri. She was confirmed in the role on 28 July 2010. She initially appeared as a guest star in the first season and returned in this role for the second season.

Acharia's character Irri was killed off in the middle of Season 2, even though the character Irri is alive as of the end of the fifth novel. Acharia apparently had to leave production on the TV series because she wasn't able to obtain Norwegian citizenship (even though most of her family has it), and thus wasn't about to extend her EU work visa. Amrita recently did an AMA thread on reddit in which she stated that this was not the reason her character was killed off, instead saying that the writers know what they are doing and that she does still in fact have an EU work visa.

Justin Bieber To Perform In Nepal

Well I am not a big fan of Justin Bieber but this news may be a very shocking news for all the believers in Nepal.

It has just been confirmed that Justin Bieber is coming to Nepal to do a gig in June this news was published in his official website, tickets and concert day is yet to be fixed though.

Nepal is very lucky to have international artists like Bryan Adams Kailash Kher, Michael Learns to Rock, etc. But this gig may just top the list as Justin Bieber is one of the most successful artist of this time.

Sources have also said that Justin Bieber wants to see the Mount Everest and his manager has made some arrangements for it. He will not be climbing the Mount Everest but would leave for the Everest region by a chopper and check into Hotel Everest View which happens to be the highest located hotel in the world situated at 3,880 m in the Sagarmatha National Park commanding a spectacular view of Mt Everest.

Now more and more artists are interested to come in Nepal and do gigs I hope to see more artists in the near future. I am really sorry if you believed this news but Got ya! Happy April Fools Day...LOL

Pooja Short Movie

Pooja a short movie written, produced and directed by Deepak Rauniyar is an eye opener for all the audiences. WOW!! this short movie in my opinion is the best Nepali Short movie I have seen in years. We have never thought how and why so many mothers have died while giving birth? We blame the society, family, god and even the government. But do we actually know why? This is just what this short movie showed me. I see a wide lack of knowledge of the people in society where they think drinking alcohol while giving birth helps to give birth. I also saw how a mothers negligence towards the regular health check up and failing to have the medicine just because you don't like it ends up. But what i mostly saw was how people still think of the old days and methods in this new era. A mother in law tells her pregnant daughter in law nothing will happen if she carries the load because in her time she carried more loads and nothing happened to her or her baby. This is just a typical Nepali thinking. This short movie also showed me how the government is unsuccessful in building roads or having a well built health post or hospital. maybe if there werent any of this problems Pooja might still have been alive if there were correct equipment and a doctor, etc. But in the end this short movie was very heart touching and i would like to recommend this movie to all of you. Scroll down to watch the movie and please share your comments below.
